I have not mentioned it to date but back in September 2012 we got a new dog. Her name is Honey and she is a tri-coloured basset hound [see photo' left]. She is about 4 years old and is a rehome [as opposed to a rescue].
After our old golden retriever Fletcher died back in September 2010 we were totally bereft and quickly got another retriever, 8 month old Mack. This was a hasty decision that we repented at our leisure. Six months down the line he still hadn’t settled and was very destructive and very energetic in our little house, which suddenly felt an awful lot smaller. Fletch had been such an old fart who slept alot of the time and, in comparison, Mack was a typical, bouncy young retriever boy with needs that I just wasn’t meeting. I had been more than a little naive looking back. In the end I admitted defeat and, after alot of soul searching, I rehomed him with a lovely couple from Essex who have given him a wonderful home and a great new life by the sea. It was meant to be I think as he has made them very happy and vice versa.
So two years on and I found I was still missing having a dog around but was wise enough this time to make a far more considered choice. Honey is the result. She’s amazing ~ great with the cats, loves going out in the car, happy to be left for a while, very gentle with Ethan and exhibits all the calm that comes with being a dog of more mature years ~ she is perfect, absolutely perfect! Such a gentle soul shines behind those soft, brown eyes. She always looks sad even when she’s happy. You have to check out the tail end to see if she’s happy or not . She’s extremely loyal and a great protector ~ nothing gets too close to my car when she’s in it I can assure you . She’s a hound with a big bark and she’s not afraid to use it on occasion.
Just wanted to share her with you all because we feel very blessed to have her.
